CT not "unfair competition"
Commercial bus operators do not face “unfair competition” from CT organisations says British Transport Minister
British Transport Minister, Sadiq Khan, has now responded to the Confederation of Passenger Transport’s allegation that commercial bus operators face “unfair competition” from community transport organisations.
Sadiq Khan said: “Community transport plays an absolutely vital role in providing essential services to the most vunerable in society – it is therefore right that the Government recognises both this important role and the not-for-profit nature of community transport providers through regulatory concessions”.
Having fully considered the EU and domestic legislation, the Transport Minister confirmed that these concessions are entirely consistent with EU law and that he sees no demonstrable need for a change to the regulatory framework governing the operation of community transport.
However, the Transport Minister did re-state that the relevant legislation must be complied with, particularly that community transport organisations benefiting from the regulatory concessions must not operate for an overall profit.
The CTA welcomes Sadiq Khan’s response to the CPT’s concerns and lack of evidence on this issue.
